
What is Necom?
The NECOM (Neurodinámica Cognitiva y dels Transtorns Mentals) Consolidated Research Group is a platform for exchange of ideas and research for key teams interested in cognitive and pathologic neurodinamics research and clinical applications.
The NECOM Group is supported and recognized by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Grup de Recerca Consolidada de la Generalitat de Catalunya, SGR2005-00831) and is composed by the following teams:

The FPI grants (FPI) are supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science (Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia) to help the scientific training of university graduates that wanted to perform a PhD thesis in all the areas of knowledge.
The applicant has to be very motivated to begin a researcher career in Cognitive Neuroscience, that is, in the representation, study and visualization of the cognitive processes in the human brain, and specially their application in the processes implied in language acquisition. The applicant will get basic training in functional neuroimaging techniques (Event-related brain potentials, ERPs and fMRI-event-related Magnetic Resonance Imaging). They are requested programming skills or predisposition to adquire them and statistic/experimental designs and system nervous functioning knowledges.
Applicants can have, given the interdisciplinary nature of the field of knowledge, studies on Psychology, Physics, Medicine (Neurology), Biology and Mathematics. It is requested availability to perform short stays in foreign countries (Europe) of at least two months each year. It is also needed a good English knowledge, language in which the project and the thesis will be performed. Applicants must have the degree obtained after 1st January 2003 (see the call for exceptions).
Applicants will be integrated in the consolidated group of the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya) “Cognitive Neurodynamis and of the Mental Disorders (Neurodinámica Cognitiva y de los Transtornos Mentales, NECOM), that studies cognitive functions in healthy subjects and with psychiatric and neurological diseases.

Dr. Antoni Rodríguez Fornells from Psycology Faculty of the UB, Dr. Thomas Münte from Ableitung für Neuropsychology of the University Otto von Guericke of Magdeburg and Dr. Carles Grau Fonollosa from Medicine Faculty of the UB from the NECOM group have obtained a grant of 360.182 € from the Fundació la Marató with the project “Plasticitat en el còrtex sensoriomotor induïda per teràpia musical en pacients amb accident cerebrovascular” (Plasticity of the sensorimotor cortex induced by musical therapy in patients suffering from stroke).
